【摘要】:1.1Thistestmethodmaybeusedtodeterminethein-placedensityandunitweightofsoilsusingasandconeapparatus.1.2Thistestmethodisapplicableforsoilswithoutappreciableamountsofrockorcoarsematerialsinexcessof11/2in.(38mm)indiameter.1.3Thistestmethodmayalsobeusedforthedeterminationofthein-placedensityandunitweightofintactorinsitusoils,providedthenaturalvoidorporeopeningsinthesoilaresmallenoughtopreventthesandusedinthetestfromenteringthevoids.Thesoilorothermaterialbeingtestedshouldhavesufficientcohesionorparticleattractiontomaintainstablesidesonasmallholeorexcavation,andbefirmenoughtowithstandtheminorpressuresexertedindiggingtheholeandplacingtheapparatusoverit,withoutdeformingorsloughing.1.4Thistestmethodisnotsuitablefororganic,saturated,orhighlyplasticsoilsthatwoulddeformorcompressduringtheexcavationofthetesthole.Thistestmethodmaynotbesuitableforsoilsconsistingofunboundgranularmaterialsthatwillnotmaintainstablesidesinthetesthole,soilscontainingappreciableamountsofcoarsemateriallargerthan11/2in.(38mm),andgranularsoilshavinghighvoidratios.1.5Whenmaterialstobetestedcontainappreciableamountsofparticleslargerthan11/2in.(38mm),orwhentestholevolumeslargerthan0.1ft3(2830cm3)arerequired,TestMethodD4914orD5030areapplicable.1.6Itiscommonpracticeintheengineeringprofessiontoconcurrentlyusepoundstorepresentbothaunitofmass(lbm)andaunitofforce(lbf).Thisimplicitlycombinestwoseparatesystemsofunits,thatis,theabsolutesystemandthegravitationalsystem.Itisscientificallyundesirabletocombinetheuseoftwoseparatesetsofinch-poundunitswithinasinglestandard.Thistestmethodhasbeenwrittenusingthegravitationalsystemofunitswhendealingwiththeinch-poundsystem.Inthissystemthepound(lbf)representsaunitofforce(weight).However,theuseofbalancesorscalesrecordingpoundsofmass(lbm),ortherecordingofdensityinlbm/ft3shouldnotberegardedasnonconformancewiththistestmethod.1.7AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026unlesssupersededbythisstandard.1.7.1Theproceduresusedtospecifyhowdataarecollected,recordedorcalculatedinthisstandardareregardedastheindustrystandard.Inadditiontheyarerepresentativeofthesignificantdigitsthatgenerallyshouldberetained.Theproceduresuseddonotconsidermaterialvariation,purposeforobtainingthedata,specialpurposestudies,oranyconsiderationsfortheusersobjectives;itiscommonpracticetoincreaseorreducesignificantdigitsorreporteddatatobecommensuratewiththeseconsiderations.Itisbeyondthescopeofthisstandardtoconsidersignificantdigitsusedinanalyticalmethodsforengineeringdesign.1.8Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
